Deputy PM Ekachai Tha-nunphairacha has directed the Revenue Department to urgently review excise tax rates to create fair treatment for domestic EV, hybrid, and alternative fuel vehicle manufacturers. The concern is that tariff disparities under FTA agreements allow imported vehicles lower tax rates, disadvantaging local producers. The government plans to use excise tax restructuring—not tariffs—to level the playing field without conflicting with FTA obligations, with battery tax to be addressed separately.
