Bank of Thailand Governor Wattay Rittanakorn highlighted a critical structural funding mismatch: high-performing young SMEs (under 10 years old) cannot access credit despite superior profitability, while the banking system holds excess liquidity (~6 trillion baht flowing daily). Only 11–26% of SMEs aged 0–10 years access credit versus large enterprises at 63%; newer firms show higher profit potential but face lending barriers. BoT is proposing new credit guarantee schemes and negotiations with credit bureaus/NDID to reduce transaction costs and unlock financing for viable SMEs.
