Thailand's Cabinet has approved extending mandatory Social Security Act coverage (Section 33) to informal workers including household workers, street vendors, and agricultural employees. However, three economic agencies—Finance, Budget Bureau, and others—have raised concerns about fiscal sustainability, potential burden on small employers and workers, and broader economic impacts. The Labour Ministry is now tasked with assessing welfare and economic implications before implementation, particularly regarding contribution sustainability and employment formalization risks.
