A royal development center in Chanthaburi is converting biomass seaweed—previously a waste byproduct from shrimp farming—into textile fibers, yarn, and eco-friendly products through a circular economy model. Dried seaweed is being blended with cotton (10–20% seaweed content) to create patterned fabrics and apparel, generating new income streams for coastal farming communities. Products are already being sold at 250 baht per yard, with plans to scale production through partnerships with local weaving groups and showcase at Thailand Research Expo 2026.
