Three FoodTech startups in SPACE-F Batch 7 are tackling food waste across the supply chain: Agrifreeze uses electromagnetic freezing to extend shelf life and maintain quality (partnering with Spike Durian); Terra Bioindustries upcycles brewer's spent grain into high-value ingredients (protein, fiber, cocoa substitute, malt syrup); and KINAVA is developing technology to recover energy from organic waste. This addresses a critical pain point for Thai food businesses—waste occurs at multiple points from degradation before sale to post-production byproducts—and aligns with EU regulations now mandating 10-30% food waste reductions by 2030. Technology's role spans prevention (shelf-life extension), upcycling (byproduct recovery), and valorization (waste-to-energy), offering both cost savings and regulatory compliance.
