The Bank of Thailand (BoT) has released formal guidelines on suspending and lifting suspensions of "mule accounts" (accounts used for money laundering/fraud). The BoT balances two priorities: rapidly identifying risky accounts to prevent further fund transfers, and expediting verification to restore legitimate users' access. Account suspension severity varies (dark horses, light horses, sugar horses) with different unsuspension processes depending on risk level and police investigation status. The BoT emphasized that suspension is preventive, not punitive, and urged financial institutions to communicate clearly with affected customers about requirements and procedures to minimize legitimate users' disruption.
