Thailand's State Railways (SRT) launched a pilot cargo transport project on the Laem Chabang–Nong Khai route, carrying 1,075 tons across 718 km using an open-access model with private sector participation. The initiative tests a new rail logistics framework to shift freight from road to rail, connecting Thailand's major port (Laem Chabang), eastern industrial zones, and the Lao border, with real operational data informing future service models and business expansion.
