Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has ordered inspections of 47 data centres to assess energy consumption, safety systems, and environmental impact. Most Bangkok data centres consume about 20 megawatts and store up to 500,000 litres of backup fuel. Only 3 have approved operating permits, while 6 standalone facilities have applied. The inspections aim to help Bangkok Metropolitan Administration better understand operations and develop clearer industry regulations, as data centres are currently licensed as commercial buildings rather than specifically regulated facilities.
