Two northern Thai provinces have partnered on "Moonlight Sky Lantern 2026," a new cultural festival combining sky lantern traditions with carbon-neutral event practices and grassroots economic distribution. The event (Nov 24–25, 2026) has already achieved 100% hotel occupancy in Chiang Mai for the Loy Krathong period, with bookings from international tour operators in China, Korea, and Malaysia. The initiative aims to spread tourism revenue from Chiang Mai into Lampun's Ban Thi district, support six ethnic communities, and serve as a pilot for sustainable festival standards across both provinces.
