Thailand's government defended the domestic solar industry after data revealed China supplied 99.3% of solar-panel imports in the first seven months of 2026. A deputy spokesman clarified this figure refers only to imported panel sources, not all panels used domestically. Thailand currently operates 32 investment-promoted projects covering the solar manufacturing chain (22 companies) with combined production capacity exceeding 49,000 MW-peak annually and 26.68 billion baht in annual local raw materials and components. The government frames the residential solar program not merely as increasing installations but as an opportunity to expand domestic manufacturing while ensuring safe, cost-effective clean energy for consumers.
