MEA (Metropolitan Electricity Authority) launched an underground utility infrastructure project across 11.3 km of Bangkok's central business district (Rama 4, Sathorn, Radio roads) to improve urban aesthetics and electrical system resilience ahead of hosting the IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings in October 2026. The initiative involves burying 3 communication line routes and removing 1.8 km of overhead electricity poles, using modern engineering and traffic management to minimize disruption while enhancing safety and positioning Bangkok as a modern, sustainable ASEAN metropolis.
