Thailand's government is rolling out a National Disaster Insurance Scheme covering 30 million households against three hazards (flooding, windstorm, earthquake) with annual premiums of 1.5 trillion baht funded by the state. Around 25 insurance companies (of 47 total) meet financial criteria to participate, each carrying up to 7.5 trillion baht in risk exposure. Coverage launches in October with initial payouts of 10,000 baht (floods) or 5,000 baht (wind/quake) per household claim, capped at 100,000 baht annually, plus 2 million baht death benefits. The scheme operates as direct government procurement from insurers for the first two years before potentially moving to a dedicated fund model.
