Microsoft has released Project Zenith, a specialized Windows 11 version designed for developers working with AI-powered code generation. It supports running large language models (30B+ parameters) locally on hardware with 64GB+ unified memory and 250 GB/s+ bandwidth. The OS ships pre-configured with developer tools including VS Code, GitHub Copilot, PowerShell 7, .NET 10, WSL 2 with Ubuntu, and developer-friendly settings. Initial hardware uses AMD Ryzen AI Halo mini-PCs, with additional chipset variants planned.
