Agriculture Minister Suriya announced accelerated plans to improve water management in Nakhon Phanom province following heavy rainfall (84mm) and forecast of further storms. Only ~20% of the province's total area currently benefits from irrigation systems. Key initiatives include rehabilitation of two reservoirs (Huay Khan Lueang and Huay Sri Khun) and a 17km flood-drought mitigation project along Huay Hong Hon waterway. National water storage stands at 59%, with the Northeast at 48%. This targets both SME agricultural productivity and climate resilience, though projects remain in planning/public consultation phases.
