Thailand's Finance Ministry approved reinstatement of inbound duty-free shops at airports, which were discontinued on August 1, 2567 (2024) to redirect tourist spending toward local retail and tourism businesses. The original cancellation aimed to redistribute ฿3 billion+ annual spending from three monopoly operators to community shops and service providers nationwide. AOT is now studying feasibility of reopening these services as policy reversal continues.
