Thailand's Highways Department is developing a 5.9 km elevated bridge connecting Chang Island (Trat Province) with a 150 billion baht budget. Phase 2 (2027–2029) includes environmental impact assessment and land acquisition for 65 plots across two districts. Construction is expected to begin in 2029–2030, taking 3–4 years, with an opening targeted for 2035. Toll rates will be priced near ferry costs (200–300 baht per vehicle) to avoid burdening locals while boosting emergency healthcare access and regional tourism. Land owners—particularly in the high-value Koh Chang area—expressed concern about fair compensation, which will be calculated using multiple valuation methods including market prices, bank assessments, and government appraisals.
