Thailand's Consumer Council has sent an open letter urging the current National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) chairman to step down, citing legal concerns over his qualifications under the frequency allocation law. The Council fears his continued participation in NBTC meetings and decisions—particularly following a nomination committee's unanimous July 17 resolution questioning his eligibility—could invalidate future regulations affecting telecom operators and millions of consumers. The Council also criticizes four years of weak consumer protection outcomes, including approvals of TRUE-DTAC and AIS-3BB mergers with insufficient post-merger oversight, and delays in the third digital television master plan due before 2027 licenses expire.
