Mae Jo University, Chulalongkorn University and Singha Volunteers have partnered on a five-year forest restoration initiative in fire-damaged areas of Chiang Mai, achieving an 85% tree survival rate. The project integrates mycorrhizal fungi technology (a "natural vaccine" for root systems) with community participation and locally-suitable species selection. The success demonstrates a replicable model for restoring wildfire-affected zones while enabling local communities to benefit from and maintain the forest sustainably, with potential spillover benefits including mushroom harvesting income and carbon sequestration.
