Thailand's Energy Ministry is launching the "One Million Solar Roofs" programme with on-bill financing through state banks, allowing households to install solar panels with zero upfront cost and repay through electricity bill savings. The initiative streamlines rooftop solar approvals (7 days) and buyback processes (30 days), backed by 50 billion baht in government subsidy. A typical 5kW system saves ~2,150–2,200 baht/month, achieving payback in 5–7 years while lowering residents' net electricity bills from month one. If successful, the 5,000MW project could reduce national average tariffs by ~5 satang/unit and decrease LNG imports, making citizens prosumers with energy self-reliance.
