Thailand faces a policy push to transition ~7,800 diesel/LPG tuk-tuks in Bangkok to electric vehicles to reduce urban pollution and meet Net Zero 2050 goals. KResearch estimates EV conversion could cut emissions by 84,500–140,000 tonnes CO₂e annually and reduce noise/air pollution in tourist zones. However, the transition costs a major obstacle: most drivers lack capital for new vehicles while servicing existing debt, relying on daily income. Government should offer subsidies, low-interest loans, trade-in programs, and dedicated charging stations, potentially linked to a 200-billion-baht green vehicle fund. Implementation requires nuanced regulation beyond blanket bans.
